Before Jesus paid the ransom, blessing came from God in exchange for effort and works from people. Kind of like Karma. So, you had to work your ass off. That’s how most of us still live today. But, in what is called The New Covenant (the new deal God unveiled when the Old Covenant was not good enough), our work isn’t to “do” but to believe/trust (yes, hard to do) and the blessings (unmerited favor) will be much greater than your efforts you made, unlike in the Old Covenant. I’ve experienced this quite a bit. Our most productive work is to believe what God says. This can be hard work, though.
