Trying to be a Good Person

If we believe that we need to piece together, deed by deed, a good and holy life if we want to be worthwhile or good people, then it seems we would behave these ways:

1.  Not want to admit it when we’re wrong.

2. Wanting to make excuses.

3.  Find the fault with others rather than ourselves.

4.  Compare to others to see if we are better then they are.

5.  Not read the Bible because it’s standards are so far out of reach.  Just makes us feel bad.

Doesn’t seem like God would set things up such that we would behave these ways.  On the other hand, when we believe that we ARE worthwhile or good people because God has DECLARED us so, regardless of our deeds, then we don’t need to do things the way of the list above.
